Junk Drawer

Junk Drawer : The secret lives of Tiny objects. This thesis explores the overlooked world of everyday items typically tucked away in a miscellaneous drawer. Objects such as hair ties, buttons and band-aids that are quietly functional and easily replaceable are reimagined as metaphorical stand-ins for human experience. Through their form, function, and patterns of use, these items become vehicles for examining aspects of identity and the quiet emotional labour of daily objects we lose constantly. The project unfolds as a constellation of independent art zines, each centered on a single object. Each zine is designed as a tactile encounter, using format, material, and paper engineering to echo the object’s functional properties and emotional associations. This creates a shared space where humour, discomfort, tenderness and existentialism coexist.Engagement through acts of handling, flipping, unfolding, and searching mirror the familiar gesture of rummaging through a junk drawer. In this process, these zines reframe the idea of lost and found not as disappearance and recovery but as cycles of use, neglect, return and wear and tear.By re-enchanting the mundane, the interactive storytelling reveals the secret lives of tiny objects, inviting reflection on the unnoticed systems that quietly shape everyday existence.
